Pest Management in Hayesville
Pest control and management refers to any system or measure that seeks to eliminate or regulate the population of insects considered harmful to human and animal health and the environment. Pest control in Hayesville NC requires a lot of work and resources but it is a necessity, especially for homes. Here are the reasons why pest management is important and why every homeowner should consider applying it:
1. Preventing damage to homes and structures
In the U.S., people spend about $5 billion for the repair of damages caused by termite infestation. Termites consume wood and wood products such as ply-board and paper. Once they have burrowed into the wood components of the home, they can eat beams, floorings and walls from the inside. This makes the structure weak and vulnerable to collapse, leaving household members at a risk. Termite infestation can be especially problematic in older homes and structures that have not been treated. In areas where termites are known pests, managing a home to keep it safe from termites requires constant vigilance and assistance from pest control agencies.
2. Preventing allergies
Pests can cause a range of issues in people, such as skin allergies, asthma and other respiratory problems. Bed bugs and mosquitoes, for example, are notorious for causing skin rashes. Pests can also carry certain allegens that can cause strong allergic reactions in some people. Cockroaches, for example, can cause allergies in at least 7% of the population. They are also one of the leading causes of asthma in children.
3. Avoiding diseases and other health risks
Leprosy, skin infections, urinary tract infections, Lyme disease, intestinal infections, dysentery, dengue, malaria and food poisoning are just a few of the diseases and health problems that pests can cause. They also carry a number of bacteria and viruses that can affect human and animal health. Although many of these diseases are treatable, they can cause serious health issues in children, the elderly and immune-compromised individuals, many of whom will require professional medical treatment or hospitalization. That, in turn, can translate to millions of dollars in medical costs.
4. Preventing damage and deterioration of furniture, carpets and clothes
Pest control has to be applied in order to save furniture, carpets and clothing and avoid the expenses associated with repairs and replacements. Burrowing insects are notorious for causing damage to the wooden and fabric components of furniture. Some, such as carpet bugs, moths, cockroaches and silverfish are also attracted to fabric, often using it as a source of food.
5. Maintenance of food supply
Food supply is critical to the survival of the world’s populations. On a macro economic level, it also influences the world’s economies and supports majority of today’s active industries. Without proper pest management, almost 20% of our food supply will be wasted due to consumption of rodents. Each year, millions of dollars’ worth of food is lost to rodent attacks and infestation. By controlling the threat, it is possible to keep food supplies at manageable and useful levels. On the Hayesville North Carolina home-front, implementing pest control measures can help prevent food waste and contamination. Pests do not only consume food, they also leave behind undesirable organic matter such as dead skin, body parts, feces and urine, all of which can affect the quality of the food we eat.

Some Common Q & A’s
What Are Your Best Ideas For Organic Garden Pest Control?
I Have Already Planted Marigolds All Around My Veggie Garden To Help Reduce Pest, What Else Should I Do?
organic pest control is multifaceted I have learned from over 15 year managing organic farms
Crop rotation, do not plant your crops in the same spot in the garden develop a 4 to 5 year rotation
Beneficial insects. 95% of the bugs out there are beneficial or neutral. Learn your bugs and avoid all insecticides like the plague as these kill the beneficial insects as much as the pests and when this happens the pest insects will invade the garden long before the beneficial insects come back because the beneficials will wait until there is big population of food.
Row covers are cloths designed to cover crops. these exclude insects and also protect crops from wind, hail and cold.
Soap sprays are sprays made from dish detergent (if you want to be really organic you have to use certified organic soaps and not detergents). I TBL per gallon of soften water will work to control soft bodied insects such as aphids. This does not work on hard bodied insects such as the various beetles. This will harm bees. For this to work well spray all surfaces of the plants every other day for about 6 to 8 weeks.
Companion planting is planting crops that have benficial effects on each other. Planting marigolds is an example of this. i have found this is of very limited use but many people like to think it wirks even if science does not bear this out. The Book carrots Love Tomatoes by Riotte is a good book on the subject.
Good soil management-healthy plants do not attract pest insects, stress plants do. So be sure to feed your soil (it is teeming with life that keeps your plants healthy if they are healthy and in balance) with good compost and stay away from synthetic fertilizers that are not good for the micr-herd in the soil.
I find hand picking pests is very, very effective (and if I can do this in a 3 acre market garden any home gardener can do this on their much smaller plots) as long as it is done daily

Do Exterminators Really Help For Pest Control?
I'M Having A Mouse Problem In My House And Am To The Point To Call An Exterminator. Do They Really Help Take Care Of The Situation? Don'T Want To Be Wasting My Money If I Can Help It.
Any Suggestions I Would Appreciate!
Yes, they can help, but as with any contractor, you have to put some effort into choosing someone who has the right skills to solve your problem (see the bottom link). But even a good exterminator isn’t a miracle worker. Critters are tricky. A mouse only needs a 1/4 inch hole to squeeze into your house, and squirrels can jump up to 12 through the air in order to reach your roof. Here’s a guide to eradicating various pests:
If the problem is severe, go with an exterminator. But if it’s not so bad maybe you can take a crack at it yourself and save some money. Here’s a list of various types of traps and eradication methods:
Whatever you do, don’t wait any longer to tackle the problem---when they’re not eating or foraging, mice make busy doing other things, such as making more mice!
How Much Was An Extermination Of Fleas From A Professional?
We Have Been Battling Fleas In Our House For Almost A Year. My Sister Let Some Of Her Friends Stay In Our Home For A Few Days And They Brought Their Cat Along. It Wasn'T Bad Until We Realized That He Was Not Neutered And He Brought Fleas Into Our Home. Last Winter We Got Advantage And The Two Cats Had A Massive Allergic Reaction Leaving One Of Them Mentally Disabled. So Now, We Have Discovered Fleas Again In Our Home And Are Beyond Frustrated. Not To Mention We Are Scared To Use Another Pesticide Product On Our Cats. We Are Looking To Have A Professional Come In. Has Anyone Else Used An Exterminator For A Job Like This? About How Much Did It Cost?
I'm sorry for your little kitty to have been unfairly disabled, my heart goes out to your cat. I hope kitty is able to have somewhat of a quality life. It would probably be best to call around to different exterminators. An exterminator uses toxic solution to exterminate your home, so, all dishes, cupboards, bedding, etc., will have to washed before using and windows opened to air out.
If your cats have dirt looking substance inside their ears, you can use mineral or olive oil. Get the oil into the ears and then let kitties shake their heads for a few minutes. Then take a soft cloth or cotton ball and wipe out kitties ears. Repeat if necessary and you'll want to do this somewhere kitties' ear debris doesn't get on anything like furniture. If they are on the body, put your cats on a white old rag and with a fine tooth comb, comb their fur sideways. If little black specs fall off and turn to red/brownish red when warm water is applied, that's flea poo. Make sure fleas don't fall off rag and place rag inside plastic bag before discarding. Fleas like to hang out where the cat can't lick and run up cat's back into their ears, if they are disturbed. Good areas to check include behind the ears and along the back and tail.
Clean everywhere, that your cat has been, w/bleach, wash cat's bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum. Wipe kitty down, with either of the following solutions, especially behind and between the ears (generally around the head), base of the tail and the armpits, .equal amounts of vinegar and water, undiluted hydrogen peroxide or by putting quartered lemon wedges into boiling water and let sit overnight. Wipe kitty down with this solution.
Fleas carry tapeworm eggs. When the cat grooms itself and the fleas are swallowed, the tapeworm attaches themselves to the small intestinal wall by hook-like mouth parts. Eventually, the adult tapeworms grow to several inches and parts of the tapeworm parts fall off it main body and pass into the stool. You'll be able to see them in kitties' poo as little white moving things. Some dewormer medicine from the vet will be needed because there are no natural home remedies that you can make sure will be effective. Good luck, I sincerely hope something works or the websites below can help. I had the same problem and know how stressful this can be. Good luck!
